The Parable of the Talents is a Bodenham school tradition that J. Marlin Goodman started years ago. (A copy of Bass’ remarks is attached.) At this reunion the Bodenham Basketball program and its coaches was the theme and the participants in that program were honored--the coaches, the players, cheerleaders, Homecoming Queens and bus drivers. Coaches Billy Marks, Joe T. Parker, and Bubba Parker spoke, highlighting their coaching days and their teams’ honors. They also reminisced about some favorable and not so favorable moments during their coaching tenure. Coaches Jerry Shackleford and Jimmy Helton were unable to be present. Jane Parker, the first woman to coach at Bodenham and who coached one year, presented plaques to players who had played 64 years ago at Bodenham. Basketball players of the 1940’s decade came forward to be recognized, as were players from the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s A best-remembered Coach was J. Marlin Goodman in whose honor the J. Marlin Goodman Scholarship Fund was established. All of the scholarship recipients were present-- Lacy Stanford, Beth Marks, Jessica White, Lauren Nave and Grayson Rose. Burns updated the J. Marlin Goodman Scholarship Fund, noting that of this date it has $81,000 in the account and it was the hope to reach $100,000 by 2005. With that amount 4 annual scholarships of $1,000 each are assured and secured. Burns announced we would continue fund-raising until the $100,000 mark is reached. He made mention that Noble Campbell had been an ardent supporter of the basketball teams and with his passing today, October 1, funds had been given to the fund in Campbell’s memory.
